ATLANTA – The Office of Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King announced today that Harold Elbert, Jr., 59, has been arrested for Arson and Aggravated Assault in connection with a fire that occurred on Saturday, September 26, at 1928 McClure Street in Waycross.

State officials were requested by the Ware County Sheriff’s Office. Upon arrival, Commissioner King’s State Fire Investigations Unit found a wood-framed structure that included 3 different 1-bedroom apartments. The point of origin for the fire is believed to be a sofa on the front porch of one of these apartments.

“Two of the three apartments had an occupant at the time of the fire, but we are thankful to report that no one was injured in the fire,” said Commissioner King. “We will continue to work with the Ware County Sheriff’s Office and Criminal Investigations Division on this case.”

Anyone with more information about this Waycross fire is encouraged to call Commissioner King’s State Fire Investigations Unit at 1-800-282-5804. Calls are taken 24 hours per day, and callers can choose to remain anonymous.
