Elevators & Escalators

Each elevator used or proposed to be used in Georgia must be thoroughly inspected regularly. The Office of Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner is responsible for performing the inspections.  The office is further responsible for issuing Certificates of Authority for all companies or individuals who install, maintain or service elevators. The rules and regulations also cover dumbwaiters, escalators, manlifts and moving walks.

Effective July 12, 2021, the Office of Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner along with the Safety Inspection Division is pleased to announce the release of the NEW OCI Citizenserve Portal. The citizens of Georgia can now access OCI Professional Services online to apply for professional licenses, submit permit requests, and pay for services online.
