Greenville Man Arrested for Meriwether County Arson, Burglary, and Auto Theft

ATLANTA – Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King announced today that Robby Joe Hanners, 42, of Greenville, was arrested on charges of 1st Degree Arson, 1st Degree Burglary, and Auto Theft.

Officials with the Manchester Fire Department and Manchester Police Department responded to a fire on Indianola Drive in Manchester just before 10:00 p.m. on Monday, April 24. The 1537-square-foot structure was approximately 75 years old and received moderate damage.

“A male subject was seen leaving the residence at the time of the fire in a vehicle reported stolen out of Columbus,” said Commissioner King. “The vehicle was later stopped in Warms Springs, resulting in Mr. Hanners’ arrest. Our office then took out warrants against Mr. Hanners for 1st Degree Arson and 1st Degree Burglary, while the Columbus Police Department charged him with Auto Theft.” 

Commissioner King’s Fire Investigations Unit assisted the Manchester Fire Department, the Manchester Police Department, and the Columbus Police Department with this investigation. The suspect is being held in the Meriwether County Jail.
