ATLANTA – Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King announced today that Johnny Dispain, Sr., 78, of Carlton, was killed in a residential fire on Thursday, June 24th.

Investigators arrived at the residence on Osley Mill Road in Carlton just after 6:00 p.m. to find the 22-year-old, 1100-square-foot mobile home completely destroyed by the fire.

“Tragically, the first responders on scene found Mr. Dispain’s body inside the residence during their firefighting,” said Commissioner King. “The body was sent to the GBI Crime Lab for identification and autopsy by the Madison County Coroner’s Office. The cause of this fire remains under investigation.”

This marks the 75th death from a Georgia fire in 2021. Commissioner King’s Fire Investigations Unit is assisting the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, the Madison County Coroner’s Office, and the Carlton Volunteer Department on this case.
