ATLANTA – Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King today announced that he, along with members of his Consumer Services and Criminal Investigations Divisions, was heading to Bryan County in response to the damaging tornado that hit the area on Tuesday, killing at least one and injuring several others.

“Our hearts are with the victims of yesterday’s storms,” said Commissioner King. “As local officials begin clean-up efforts today, I have deployed fraud investigators from my office to educate impacted residents on ways to protect themselves from bad actors looking to take advantage of storm victims. Today, I will be personally touring the impacted area and assessing damages to determine if we need to set up a remote office to assist those impacted with filing claims with their insurance carriers.”

If necessary, Commissioner King will also call on Georgia insurers to make staff available on the ground to process storm claims in-person.

Anyone with questions on their insurance policies or issues filing a claim in the wake of yesterday’s storms should call the Consumer Services Division of the Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner’s Office at (800) 656-2298. Staff is available Monday – Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
