Atlanta Man Charged with Seven Counts of Insurance Fraud, Forgery

ATLANTA – Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King announced today that Dexter Washington, 54, of Atlanta, has been charged with insurance fraud and forgery.

Between February 2019 and April 2020, Mr. Washington submitted seven repair invoices from seven insurance claims to GEICO Insurance Company, who alerted us of ongoing suspicious activity. The claims included collision, comprehensive, and property damage for several vehicles in need of repair. In total, Mr. Washington and his company, Pro Hands, received payouts totaling more than $43,000 from six of the claims.

“Special Agents from our Criminal Investigations Division discovered that Mr. Washington used a car dealership employee to print out invoices that were zeroed out for repair,” said Commissioner King. “He would then create fraudulent repair invoices to receive a check from GEICO, which were issued in the claimant’s name, Mr. Washington’s name, or his company."

Warrants were taken out against Mr. Washington for seven counts each of Insurance Fraud and Forgery. He is still wanted at this time.
