ATLANTA – Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King announced today that an accidental fire over the weekend has caused two child fatalities in Pike County.

At approximately 4:30 a.m. on Sunday, November 13th, the State Fire Marshal’s Office’s Fire Investigations Unit was requested to respond to a residential structure fire with two known child fatalities on Short Cut Road in Molena, Georgia. Upon arrival, investigators determined that the fire began immediately in the entrance of the home’s second bedroom. The fire was contained to the room of origin and burned an area of approximately five feet.

“At the request of Pike County Fire and the Pike County Sheriff’s Office, my investigators were able to quickly respond to the scene and determine that this deadly fire was accidental in nature,” said Commissioner King. “I am deeply saddened by this tragic loss of life and extend my most sincere condolences to the families of the victims."
