Crawford County Fatal Fire Under Investigation
ATLANTA – Early on the morning of August 19, the Crawford County Fire Department responded to a mobile home fire at 4574 East Houze Road in Fort Valley. Upon arriving on the scene, they discovered the body of Kavin Kelly, 47.
The fire appears to have originated in a kitchen that had been added on to the home. Kelly had told his brother late on Tuesday evening that he smelled something burning, but the fire was not reported until nearly 3:30 A.M. on Wednesday morning. The cause of the fire remains undetermined at this time.
“Our fire investigators and I are deeply saddened to learn of Mr. Kelly’s passing, which marks the 50th reported fire fatality in Georgia this year,” said Commissioner King. “We remain grateful to local authorities, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, and our law enforcement partners across the state for their work investigating these tragedies.”
Commissioner King’s Fire Investigations Unit is assisting the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, the Crawford County Fire Department, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s District 13 Regional Investigative Office in Perry with this investigation.
