ATLANTA –Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King Fire announced today that a camper fire in Taliaferro County claimed the life of one individual. The fire occurred on June 5 at approximately 9 a.m. on Saggus Road in Crawfordville and is believed to be accidental in nature.

“This instance tragically claimed the life of a 67-year-old male,” said Commissioner King. “We are now awaiting a positive ID from the GBI Crime Lab. Working with the Taliaferro County Sheriff’s Office and the Taliaferro County Fire Department, we believe this fire was caused by a space heater in the camper.”

This marks the 67th death from a Georgia fire in 2021.
