ATLANTA – Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King announced today that Ricky Bell, 57, was killed in a Montgomery County fire around 2:20 p.m. on Wednesday, August 11.

Commissioner King’s Fire Investigations Unit arrived on scene around 5:00 p.m. to find the 22-year-old mobile home on Henry Lee Brown Street in Mount Vernon heavily damaged. The investigator determined the fire originated in a bedroom occupied by the victim.

“The deceased was found in a hallway near the rear door of the home,” said Commissioner King. “We have determined the preliminary cause of this tragic accident to be indoor smoking igniting bedding material.”

Commissioner King’s Fire Investigations Unit assisted the Montgomery County Sheriff’s and Coroner’s Office, Mount Vernon Fire and Police Departments, and the Georgia Department of Corrections Fire Services in this death investigation.
