ATLANTA – Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King announced today that Michael Curry, 62, was killed in a Twiggs County fire on Saturday, January 22nd. The accidental fire occurred on Home House Drive in Dry Branch around 7:30 a.m. The 52-year-old 576-square-foot trailer was completely destroyed.

This fire appears to have originated next to an electric space heater being used as the heat source for the residence.

“A Twiggs County Sheriff’s deputy arrived to find fire coming from the right side of the structure and was informed that the owner was still inside the trailer,” said Commissioner King. “Upon the fire department’s arrival, they entered the residence and found the deceased on the floor of the bedroom.”

Commissioner King’s Fire Investigations Unit assisted the Twiggs County Fire Department and Twiggs County Sheriff's Office in this investigation. This marks the 14th death from a Georgia fire in 2022.
