ATLANTA – Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King announced today that Raekwon Lackey, 23, and two juveniles were arrested in connection with a Clarke County fire. Mr. Lackey is being charged with Arson in the 1st Degree, Criminal Damage, Vandalism, and Contributing to Delinquency. The two juveniles are being charged with Arson in the 1st Degree.

The fire occurred on March 27th at the Holiday Inn Express on East Broad Street in Athens at approximately 6:00 p.m.

“The suspects broke into the hotel and set five different fires,” said Commissioner King. “Thankfully, the Athens Clarke County Fire Department and the hotel’s sprinkler system were able to extinguish the fires.”

Commissioner King’s Fire Investigations Unit is assisting the Athens-Clarke County Police Department and Fire Department, and the University of Georgia Police Department with this investigation.
