ATLANTA – Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King announced today that a residential structure fire at 11373 Highway 34 in Franklin is under investigation.

At approximately 11:34 p.m. on March 4th, the Heard County Fire Department and Franklin Police Department responded to an apartment fire with a possible victim.

“Upon extinguishment, firefighters located a single victim who was pronounced deceased at the scene,” said Commissioner King. “The victim has been transported to the GBI Crime Lab for positive identification and autopsy. The cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time.”

The fire was contained to one apartment, which suffered severe fire damage throughout. Our office is working with the Heard County Fire Department, Coroner’s Office, and the Franklin Police Department on this investigation.
