ATLANTA— Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King announced today that George Christopher Baker, 45, of Dublin, has been arrested in connection with a series of fires in Laurens County.

On Monday, June 23, at approximately 3:26 a.m., the Dublin Fire Department responded to a dumpster set ablaze on Jefferson Street, resulting in damage to the nearby Jefferson Street Baptist Church. This incident was followed by four additional set fires near downtown Dublin between 9:45 a.m. and 10:10 a.m., including two additional dumpsters, one trashcan, and a stack of crossties.

“A total of five fires have been connected to Baker, who has since been arrested and faces 11 charges of Arson in the First Degree,” stated Commissioner King. “We are incredibly thankful that no one was injured as a result of these fires and for our close partnership with the Dublin Police Department and the Dublin Fire Department on this investigation.”

As of the date of this release, Baker resides in the Laurens County Jail.
