Important Announcement Regarding Sonder Health Plans, Inc.
ATLANTA – Sonder Health Plans, Inc. (“Sonder Health Plans”) was placed into receivership by order of the Superior Court of Fulton County on August 13, 2025, to protect Georgia policyholders due to its reported insolvency and inability to raise additional funds from outside investors. Prior to the Court ordered receivership, Sonder Health Plans was placed into administrative supervision on April 11, 2025, by consent order to try to cure its surplus deficiency reported to our office. During this period of enhanced supervision, our office has closely monitored the company and determined that continued operation of Sonder Health Plans was not possible without putting policyholders and providers at risk.
Sonder Health Plans policyholders that have a Sonder Health Plans policy (i.e., Medicare Advantage, Chronic Special Needs Plan or Dual Eligible Special Needs Plan) will not lose Medicare, but Sonder Medicare Advantage plan will terminate effective October 1, 2025. To ensure Sonder Health Plans policyholders have an opportunity to replace their current Sonder Medicare Advantage plan with a Medicare Advantage plan issued by another insurer before it is terminated, our office coordinated with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to implement a special enrollment period for members to choose another health insurance plan.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Sonder Health Plan policyholders will not lose Medicare coverage even if they do not enroll in a new health plan with a different insurer. If a policyholder does not enroll in a new health plan, they will revert to Original Medicare and will be auto-enrolled into a Medicare Part D plan covering prescription drugs.
The special enrollment period began on August 13, 2025, and ends on October 31, 2025. If a policyholder does not choose a new Medicare Advantage plan by September 30, 2025, they will be covered by Original Medicare and auto-enrolled into a Medicare D drug plan. Policyholders will have the option to choose another Medicare Advantage Plan until October 31, 2025. Impacted members should visit www.SonderHealthPlans-InReceivership.com for assistance with the process of choosing a new Medicare health plan. It is important that Sonder Health Plans policyholders select a new health insurance plan before October 1, 2025, to avoid reversion to Original Medicare.
