Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King announced today that a fire in Jefferson has been ruled an act of arson by his State Fire Investigations Unit. The fire occurred at 1180 Washington Street around 8:00 p.m. on Monday, November 23.

Arrest Made in Connection with Pembroke Fire

The Office of Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King announced today that an arrest has been made in connection with an incendiary fire that occurred at 217 Burkhalter Street in Pembroke on Monday, November 16. Cecil R. Sparkes, the prime suspect, was charged on November 23.

Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King’s State Fire Investigations Unit announced today that Cecil R. Sparkes, 47, is wanted in connection with a major fire at 217 Burkhalter Street in Pembroke. Mr. Sparkes was last seen in a 2002 Black Toyota Highlander with Georgia tag RRS 8193.

Suspect on the Run Connected to Fires Across Georgia

The Office of Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King announced today that a man suspected to have set multiple fires across Georgia is on the run. Most recently, state authorities believe Brandon Morton, 36, set fire to an apartment off of Old Clinton Road in Gray, a Central Georgia town.

Arrest Made in Jones County Arson Case

The Office of Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King announced today that Brandon Morton, 36, was arrested by authorities in Ohio soon after a BOLO was put out concerning a Jones County arson case. Mr. Morton was caught in a traffic stop on Tuesday morning in Euclid, Ohio, and will be extradited to Georgia in the coming days. 

Woman Killed in Hartwell Apartment Fire

The Office of Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King announced today that Sharon Montgomery, 62, was killed in an accidental fire at 84 West Franklin Place in Hartwell. The fire occurred around 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 15.

Elderly Man Dies in Heard County Campfire

The Office of Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King announced today that Robert Ratliff Jr., 71, was killed in an accidental fire on Saturday, November 14. The fire occurred on the 12000 block of Highway 100 in Franklin.
