Man Arrested in Connection with Eatonton Fire

Today, Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King announced that Cedric Hurt, 37, was arrested for Arson in the 1st Degree and six counts of Life Endangerment. The arrest stemmed from a July 31st incident in which a fire was started in a vehicle located in the front yard of a residence that later spread to the 81-year-old, 1669-square foot house.

Rex Woman Wanted for Fraud, Forgery

Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King announced today that Angelina Cortez, 46, of Rex, was arrested after turning herself in to the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office on August 25th. She faces one count of Insurance Fraud and two counts of Forgery in the 1st Degree and is currently being held in the Clayton County Jail.

Lumpkin Fire Intentionally Set

On August 5th, a member of Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King’s Fire Investigation Unit was requested by the Lumpkin Police Department to assist in a Stewart County fire on Saint John Street. The fire occurred at approximately 12:07 P.M. and caused severe damage to the 51-year-old, 672-square-foot vacant mobile home. The fire is classified as incendiary in nature.

One Person Killed in Leary Fire

Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King announced today that one person was killed in a Calhoun County fire. The fire occurred on Highway 55 in Leary around 2:54 a.m. on Friday, August 13th. The 81-year-old, 1688-square-foot structure was entirely destroyed by the fire.

Next Thursday, September 2nd, First Lady Marty Kemp will host Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King and members of the State Fire Marshal’s Office for an arson K-9 badge pinning ceremony at the Governor’s Mansion.

Thomasville Fire Ruled Arson

Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King announced today that a Thomas County fire was intentionally set and has been ruled an act of Arson. The fire occurred on Millpond Road in Millpond Plantation at approximately 1:30 a.m. on July 26th. The 700-square-foot residence had no connected utilities and has been unoccupied for a significant amount of time. The structure suffered heavy damage from the fire.

One Person Killed in Mount Vernon Fire

Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King announced today that Ricky Bell, 57, was killed in a Montgomery County fire around 2:20 p.m. on Wednesday, August 11.

Woman Arrested in Connection with Griffin Fire

On August 8th, a member of Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King’s Fire Investigations Unit was requested by the Spalding Fire Department to assist in a fire investigation on Forest Wood Drive in Griffin. The fire occurred at approximately 10:20 a.m. and damaged a 49-year-old, 1474-square-foot residence. The occupant of the home, Ms. Angelina Littles, 28, was taken into custody as a result of the incident.

Man Arrested in Connection with Menlo Fire

On August 3rd, a member of Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King’s Fire Investigations Unit was requested by the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office to assist in a fire investigation on Riverhaven Lane in Menlo. The fire occurred at approximately 10:20 p.m. and completely destroyed the 43-year-old, 1630-square-foot home. Mr. Robert Swearinger, 37, was charged as a result of the incident.

Eatonton Fire Intentionally Set

Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King announced today that a Putnam County fire was intentionally set and has been ruled an act of Arson. The fire occurred on Grand Avenue at approximately 3:19 A.M. on July 31st. The fire started in a vehicle in the front yard and spread to the residence, causing moderate damage to the 81-year-old, 1669-square foot structure.
