Fire Prevention Week
Since 1922, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has sponsored Fire Prevention Week. On June 1, 2020 The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) announced "Serve Up Fire Safety in the Kitchen" as the theme for Fire Prevention Week, October 4-10, 2020.
To encourage observance of Fire Prevention Week, Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King in conjunction with the State Fire Marshal's Office sponsors activities that support fire safety and prevention. Each year a statewide poster, fire safety tips calendar poster and two fire safety essay contests are conducted for Georgia students.
- The poster and fire safety tips calendar contests are designed for grades K – 5
- The fire safety house essay contest is designed for grades K – 5
- The fire safety essay contest is geared to grades 6 – 12

Additionally, Commissioner John F. King and the State Fire Marshal urge schools and communities to participate in the annual statewide fire drill during the month of October. If the weather permits the State Wide Fire Drill will be held on October 7, 2020 at 10:00 AM. If the weather or other school schedules prevents you from conducting this drill please reschedule for the following Wednesday October 14, 2020 at 10:00 AM.
