Healthcare Facilities (CMS)
Through a contract between the Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner and the Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Human Resources, the Office of the State Fire Marshal conducts federally required Life Safety Code (LSC) inspections in Non-JCAH Hospitals, Nursing Homes, Ambulatory Surgical Centers, Hospice, Intermediate Care Facilities/Mental Retardation, that are providers of the Centers for Medicare and /or Medicaid Services Program (CMS). Several Types of federal inspections are requested and conducted by the HHS Section which include initial certification, recertification, complaint, investigation monitoring (fire and compliance), follow up visits, validation surveys and critical access hospitals certification.
The Health and Human Services Section is staffed by an Assistant State Fire Marshal, Administrative Specialist and Clerical Secretary who are primarily responsible for the Administrative Duties of the program, which include but are not limited to the processing and submission of the survey reports to the Federal Electronic Data Bases of the Department of Human Resources. The surveys are conducted in Health Care Facilities in the state of Georgia representing 159 counties and approximately 956 annual inspections utilizing Fire Safety Compliance officers employed by the State Fire Marshal Division.
The period of contract between the Departments has an effective date of the July 1st of each year and terminates the next year on the 30th day of June.
