ATLANTA – The Office of Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King announced today that Gendolyn Hudson, 80, was killed in a mobile home fire on Friday, October 30. The fire occurred around 1:15 p.m. at 677 Ray Frost Road in Byron.

When the Crawford County Fire Department and Crawford County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the scene, they found heavy soot throughout the entire 29-year-old, 1,848-square-foot mobile home as well as fire damage in the living room area.

“Our investigators were asked for support, and they worked with Crawford County officials to learn that the fire originated in the living room area on the right side of the mobile home,” said Commissioner King. “Ms. Hudson and her dog were in the living room when investigators arrived.”

Ms. Hudson’s body was turned over to the Crawford County Coroner for transport to the GBI Crime Lab. An autopsy will be conducted on the body. At this time, state and local investigators do not believe this fire was criminal in nature.

Ms. Hudson marks the 70th fire fatality in Georgia for 2020.
