Two Jackson County Yard Fires Ruled Arson

ATLANTA – Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King announced today that two different yard fires in Jefferson were intentionally set and have been ruled acts of arson. 

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office contacted Commissioner King’s State Fire Investigations Unit regarding a fire that was reported around 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 15. This fire occurred at 15 Whirlaway Street, and the yard sustained significant fire damage. 

“Our investigator first met with the homeowner of 15 Whirlaway Street and an investigator from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office,” said Commissioner King. “After those meetings, the state investigator discovered that the yard of 303 Whirlaway Street had also sustained significant damage around the same time.” 

Both fires were extinguished by the owners, responded to by the local fire department, and ruled to be acts of arson. Commissioner King’s State Fire Investigations Unit is continuing its work alongside the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office in this case.
