Gwinnett County Man Charged with Insurance Fraud, Forgery

ATLANTA – Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King announced today that Kyle Marler, 31, of Lawrenceville, has been charged with two counts each of insurance fraud and forgery.

On September 9th, 2021, Mr. Marler initiated a property loss claim with Homesite Insurance using purchase receipts from Apple Inc. and Micro Center as evidence. Two days later, he submitted personal property changes to his policy claim with the intent of obtaining an insurance payout of $6,298.49. However, Apple Inc. records and a Micro Center return receipt indicated that Mr. Marler was not the owner of the assessed items.

“During the course of our investigation, we determined the receipts submitted by Mr. Marler did not originate with the companies they represented, included items he did not purchase, and listed items altered to misrepresent higher valued items,” said Commissioner King. “By using these forged receipts to misrepresent ownership and further the property loss claim, Mr. Marler is being charged with knowingly and willfully committing insurance fraud and forgery.”

Arrest warrants for Mr. Marler were taken out on August 24th. He has yet to be apprehended.
