ATLANTA – Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King released a Spanish language public service announcement today calling on all Georgians to complete the 2020 Census and register to vote by the deadline of next Monday, October 5. Along with the video, he released the following statement.

“As Georgia’s first Hispanic constitutional officer, I recognize that I have a unique platform to reach Georgians who share my Hispanic or Latino heritage. Today, I am using that platform to encourage all Georgians, including Spanish-speaking Georgians, to get counted in the 2020 Census and to register to vote for the upcoming election.

The U.S. Census helps determine federal funding that impacts Georgians of all backgrounds, such as funding for healthcare, public safety, education, infrastructure, and disaster preparedness. This funding impacts everyone living in the United States, so the Census does not ask for a person’s citizenship status.

Additionally, Monday is the last day to register to vote in the November 3rd election. With a presidential race, 2 U.S. Senate races, congressional races, and local and state races on the ballot, this is a crucial election. The opportunity to cast a ballot in free and fair elections should never be taken for granted. By visiting the Secretary of State’s website, you can register to vote, view a sample ballot, check your polling place, and more.

Between the Census and the election, 2020 is an extremely important year for our state and our country. Get counted, get registered, and play an active role in our democracy.”

Georgians who fill out the Census should do so at 2020census.gov.

Georgians who register to vote should do so at mvp.sos.ga.gov.
