ATLANTA – Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King announced today that Michael C. Watson, 64, was killed in a Chatham County fire on Monday, January 31st.

The fire occurred on Ogeechee Road in Savannah and completely destroyed the 36-year-old mobile home.

“An investigation is currently underway to determine the exact cause,” said Commissioner King. “Emergency responders located the victim just inside the front door and subsequently transported his body to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s crime lab for autopsy.”

Commissioner King’s Fire Investigations Unit is assisting the Garden City Police Department and the Chatham County Fire Department in this investigation. This marks the 20th death from a Georgia fire in 2022.
