ATLANTA – Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King announced today that Jose Martinez, 56, of Grayson, has been charged with insurance fraud.

In 2016, Mr. Martinez submitted a self-audit form to Liberty Mutual Insurance Company with his company’s 2016 Corporate Income Tax Return information. Upon investigation, the documents were found to contain false information on his company’s profits and employee pay.

“Mr. Martinez deceived the insurance company by altering the revenue generated by the company and the amount owed to his employees,” said Commissioner King. “The fraudulent activity was done to hide his company’s true worker’s compensation liabilities and as a result receive greatly reduced insurance premiums. The suspect’s actions defrauded Liberty Mutual of more than $9,250,000 in premiums which should have been paid for the coverage liabilities received.”

Warrants were taken out Against Mr. Martinez on December 1 in Gwinnett County. He was taken into custody on December 5.
