ATLANTA – Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King announced today that Angelina Cortez, 47, of Rex, has been charged with one count of insurance fraud. Ms. Cortez is charged in connection with a Henry County case.

Following a burglary at her business, Ms. Cortez filed an insurance claim for more than $5,600 with the Hartford Insurance Company. She then claimed to have replaced the items via online purchases and submitted the receipt to Hartford as evidence.

“After speaking with representatives from Amazon, investigators confirmed that the order for the replacement items was canceled, and Ms. Cortez was refunded for her purchase,” said Commissioner King. “It has been determined that the suspect knowingly and willfully submitted a fraudulent insurance claim with the intention of receiving an insurance payout.”

Warrants were taken out against Ms. Cortez in Henry County on November 22nd. She is still wanted at this time.
